Following his graduation from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960, Dr. Kalam embarked on his career as a scientist. In 1965, his journey as a scientist took a significant turn as he became part of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).During the years 1963 to 1964, he had the opportunity to visit renowned American space research centers, including NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia; Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland; and Wallops Flight Facility. Although he initially started his career by designing a small hovercraft, he felt an inner calling towards a different path than the one at DRDO.

- In 1981, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.

Tragically, he collapsed inside the lecture hall just five minutes into his talk, at approximately 6:35 p.m. His sudden and unexpected demise was met with grief from countless people around the world, and the entire nation mourned his loss.
