In 1967, Ashwin Dani commenced his career as a development chemist with Inmont Corp in Detroit, US. He transitioned to Asian Paints in 1968, starting as a senior executive and progressing through roles such as Director of Research and Development, Director of Engineering, and ultimately becoming a Full-time Director. The company, founded by his father Suryakant Dani and three associates – Champaklal Choksey, Chimanlal Choksi, and Arvind Vakil – had its origins in Gaiwadi, Girgaon, Mumbai, in February 1942. The Choksey family eventually sold their stake, while the remaining three families retained a 52.3% ownership of the company. Ashwin Dani joined the company’s board in 1970 and served as Vice Chairman and Managing Director from 1998 to 2009. Subsequently, he continued to contribute as a non-executive director on the Board and as Vice Chairman of both the Board and the Company.
