In 2006, Baba Ramdev, along with his colleague Balkrishna, co-founded Patanjali Ayurved and Patanjali Yogpeeth. Ramkishen Yadav (Real Name Baba Ramdev) was born on Saturday 25 December 1965. Now he is 57 years old.
Baba Ramdev hails from a humble middle-class Hindu Yadav family, where his father, Ram Nivas Yadav, worked as a farmer. Growing up, his entire family embraced Hinduism and engaged in regular worship. During his childhood, Ramdev was known to be less talkative, as attested by his parents. His mother’s name is Gulabo Devi. In addition to his parents, his household includes his younger brother Ram Bharat, as well as an older brother and a younger sister.
He received his primary education in his hometown and studied till 8th standard after that he joined Gurukul to study Sanskrit and yoga. At a young age, Yadav was drawn to the writings by Dayanand Saraswati, specifically Satyarth Prakash which led him to leave his government school to pursue a gurukula at around nine years old.
He is unmarried.
Ramdev, after embracing an ascetic lifestyle, underwent the sacred initiation of ‘Sanyasi Diksha’ and assumed the name Swami Ramdev under the guidance of Swami Shankar Dev Ji. Along his twenty-year journey, he emerged as the prominent figure behind Patanjali Ayurved, a company he co-founded with his colleague (Acharya) Balkrishna. In 1995, he established the Divya Yog Mandir Trust, while in 2003, his morning yoga sessions started airing on Aastha TV. Ramdev Ji has been bestowed with esteemed accolades such as the Surya Ratna and the Mahaveer Award from the United Kingdom, as well as the Chandrasherendra Saraswati National Award of Prestige and the Mahamahopadhyaya Globoil India Award.
