Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s life began on April 14, 1891, in the town and military cantonment of Mhow, which has since been officially, renamed Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, now situated in Madhya Pradesh, India. His family hailed from a Marathi background, with their roots tracing back to the town of Ambada in the Mandan gad taluka of the Ratnagiri district in modern-day Maharashtra. Dr. Ambedkar’s pursuit of higher education in the United States was made possible through sponsorship by the Maharaja of Baroda, a privilege that came with the obligation to return and serve under the Princely State.

Career

By the year 1927, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had become actively involved in a relentless campaign against the deeply ingrained practice of untouchability, marking a pivotal moment in his lifelong mission for social reform.
