Her passion for running seemed to start even before she was born, as she often jokes about competing in her first race while still in her mother’s womb.
Both of Harmilan’s parents are accomplished athletes. Her father, Amandeep Bains, was a medalist in the 1500m category at the South Asian Games, while her mother, Madhuri Singh, won a silver medal in the 800m category at the 2002 Asian Games and was honored with the Arjuna Award in 2003.
Career
At the age of ten, she achieved her first taste of success in the 600m race. In 2022, Harmilan secured a silver medal in the 1500m event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Following this, she actively participated in her school’s CBSE cluster games. At the Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar in 2023, she clinched silver medals in both the 1500m and 800m races, emerging victorious in all these competitions.
