Family
Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest among the five children born to Dinanatha and Shevanti Mangeshkar, who were part of a Maharashtrian Brahmin family. Among her siblings, she had a younger brother named Hridayanath Mangeshkar, as well as three younger sisters named Asha (Bhosle), Usha, and Meena. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a renowned classical singer and a seasoned stage actor. It is worth noting that Lata made her acting debut at the tender age of five in a play in which her father was actively participating.

On her inaugural day of school, Lata Mangeshkar had to leave due to a peculiar circumstance – she wasn’t permitted to have her sister Asha accompany her. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a highly accomplished classical singer and a well-regarded theatre actor. Her mother, Shevanti, hailed from a Gujarati background and held the distinction of being her father’s second wife.
First Song
Lata Mangeshkar’s debut as a playback singer came with the song “Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari” for the Marathi film “Kitni Hasaal” in the year 1942. Remarkably, she was just 13 years old when she recorded this song, marking the inception of her illustrious singing career.
Death
On January 8, 2022, Lata Mangeshkar tested positive for COVID-19, experiencing mild symptoms that prompted her admission to the intensive care unit at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Her initial condition was quite serious, necessitating the use of a ventilator for her treatment. She remained in the ICU, showing modest signs of improvement in her health. As her condition seemed to be stabilizing, she was taken off the ventilator on January 28th, raising hopes for her recovery. Unfortunately, her health took a turn for the worse on February 5th, leading to her being placed back on the ventilator. Despite receiving aggressive medical care, Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary figure in the world of music, passed away on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92, marking the end of an era.

Lataji embarked on her remarkable career in 1942, a period marked by the loss of her father. Her first foray into the world of playback singing began with the Marathi film “Kitni Hasaal” in the same year, where she lent her melodious voice to the song “Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari.” Just a year later, in 1943, she made her debut in Hindi playback singing the song “Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu” in the movie “Gajaabhaau.”During this era, the Bollywood industry was still finding its footing, and Lata Mangeshkar initially explored acting, although it wasn’t her preferred path.
