Domestic Career

Mohammad Siraj marked his first-class debut on November 15, 2015, during the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy tournaments while under the guidance of coach Karthik Udupa, playing for Hyderabad. His impressive performance quickly earned him a spot on the state’s Under-23 team, and he continued to exhibit his skills by representing the senior zonal team. Siraj entered the Twenty20 arena on January 2, 2016, in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournaments. Notably, during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy tournaments, he emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Hyderabad with an impressive tally of 41 wickets at an average of 18.92, despite participating in only one game. His contributions played a crucial role in helping Hyderabad reach the quarterfinals of the 2016 Ranji Championships.

Subsequently, in the 2018 IPL auction, the Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired Siraj. His stellar performances continued in the domestic circuit, as he emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy during the 2017-18 season, claiming 23 dismissals in seven matches. He represented India A in the Deodar Trophy in 2018–19 and India B in 2019–20. On October 21, 2020, Siraj etched his name in IPL history by becoming the first bowler to deliver back-to-back maiden overs in a single match. International career

In October 2017, he earned a spot in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against New Zealand. His initial T20I wicket was the prized scalp of Kane Williamson. He acknowledged the match’s high cost, estimating the score at one for 53 runs. In February 2018, he found a place in India’s T20I squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. Subsequently, he played in two more T20Is, securing two additional wickets. Although named in India’s Test squad for the September 2018 series against the West Indies, he did not participate. During the 2017 IPL auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad bid Rs. 2.6 crore, thirteen times his original price of 20 lakhs.

In December 2018, he was selected for India’s One Day International (ODI) squad against Australia. Participating in six games, he took ten wickets at an average of 21.2, with his best score being 4/32. His ODI debut took place on January 15, 2019, at the Adelaide Oval against Australia. Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired him for INR 2.20 million in the 2018 IPL Auction. On October 26, 2020, he was named in India’s Test squad for the series against Australia, playing in 11 games but securing only 11 wickets. After careful consideration between Navdeep Saini and him following Mohammad Shami’s injury, he was chosen and made his Test debut on December 26, 2020, against Australia. Excelling in the final stretch of the 2020 IPL in the UAE, he played a key role in RCB’s qualification for the playoffs.

In January 2023, Siraj played a crucial role in the Ind vs NZ ODI series, claiming 4 wickets in the first ODI, contributing to the team’s victory by 12 runs. He was selected to represent India in the 2023 Asia Cup, announced in the 15-man squad by BCCI on August 21, 2023.
