Domestic Career
Mohammad Siraj marked his first-class debut on November 15, 2015, during the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy tournaments while under the guidance of coach Karthik Udupa, playing for Hyderabad. His impressive performance quickly earned him a spot on the state’s Under-23 team, and he continued to exhibit his skills by representing the senior zonal team. Siraj entered the Twenty20 arena on January 2, 2016, in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournaments. Notably, during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy tournaments, he emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Hyderabad with an impressive tally of 41 wickets at an average of 18.92, despite participating in only one game. His contributions played a crucial role in helping Hyderabad reach the quarterfinals of the 2016 Ranji Championships.
Subsequently, in the 2018 IPL auction, the Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired Siraj. In December 2018, he was selected for India’s One Day International (ODI) squad against Australia. Participating in six games, he took ten wickets at an average of 21.2, with his best score being 4/32. His ODI debut took place on January 15, 2019, at the Adelaide Oval against Australia. Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired him for INR 2.20 million in the 2018 IPL Auction. On October 26, 2020, he was named in India’s Test squad for the series against Australia, playing in 11 games but securing only 11 wickets. After careful consideration between Navdeep Saini and him following Mohammad Shami’s injury, he was chosen and made his Test debut on December 26, 2020, against Australia.
