Mother Teresa’s father, Nikollë Bojaxhiu, was an enterprising individual who engaged in construction contracting and traded in medicines and various other commodities. Her mother, Dranafile Bojaxhiu (née Bernai), played a significant role in the family as well. Mother Teresa was the youngest among her siblings, with brothers named Aga Bojaxhiu and Lazar Bojaxhiu.

In 1948, she commenced her missionary work among the impoverished, exchanging her traditional Loreto habit for a simple white cotton sari with a blue border. The Missionaries of Charity, present globally, received support from Co-Workers who formally established an International Association on March 29, 1969.
