In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Oommen Chandy was bestowed with the award in Bahrain by Wu Hongbo, the then UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs. His journey began as the unit president of KSU at St George High School, Puthupally, and eventually led him to become the State President of the organization. Oommen Chandy passionately represented the Puthuppally constituency as an MLA in the State Assembly from 1970 until his passing in 2023.
