Domestic career

Rinku Singh showcased his skills across various levels, representing Uttar Pradesh in the Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 categories, and Central Zone in the Under-19 level. His debut in T20 cricket for Uttar Pradesh happened on March 31, 2014, facing Vidarbha during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Jaipur. During that match, he scored a quick 24 runs off just 5 balls, featuring 5 fours and 2 sixes. Moving into List A cricket, Singh made his debut at the age of 16 for Uttar Pradesh in March 2014, where he impressively notched up 83 runs, emerging as the top scorer.

In subsequent years, he continued to excel, playing for Central Zone Under-19 in 2014 and earning selection for Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association XI in 2015. His entry into first-class cricket came during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on November 5, 2016, representing Uttar Pradesh. He made a significant mark in this debut match against Punjab, scoring 50 runs in the first innings and an unbeaten 43 runs in the second innings.

Singh’s consistency shone through as he emerged as the leading run-scorer for Uttar Pradesh during the group stage of the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, amassing 803 runs in nine matches. His impressive performances continued, maintaining an average of over 50 in both Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, culminating in 953 runs across ten matches, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the domestic cricket scene.

Indian Premier League

In February 2017, Kings XI Punjab picked him for the 2017 Indian Premier League. Then, in the 2018 auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed him for Rs 80 lakhs, a significant jump from his base price of Rs 20 lakhs. Unfortunately, a knee injury sidelined Rinku from the 2021 Indian Premier League, leading to his replacement by Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Expressing his joy after the auction, he mentioned his desire to throw a grand wedding for his sister Neha, a plan he couldn’t fulfill.

Moving forward, in February 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him again during the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League. In the 2018 IPL season, he played four matches, scoring 29 runs with an average of 7.25 and a strike rate of 93.54. Additionally, he secured four catches during the tournament. However, his breakthrough came during a match against Rajasthan Royals where his impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match title. He scored 42 runs in 23 balls at a strike rate of 182.61, bagging a prize of one lakh rupees.

In the 2020 IPL, his contributions were limited to one match where he scored 11 runs with a strike rate of 100 and managed to take one catch. However, Rinku’s defining moment arrived on April 9, 2023, during an IPL match against Gujarat Titans. He etched his name in history by smashing 5 sixes in the final over, helping his team successfully chase down 29 runs, marking the highest-ever chase in the tournament’s last over.

International Career

In August 2023, he stepped into the international arena, marking his debut in the first T20i against Ireland at The Village. His fame soared earlier when he smashed five consecutive sixes in the final over by Yash Dayal, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to a remarkable win against Gujarat Titans during an IPL 2023 match. Continuing his streak, in November 2023, he played an unbeaten match-winning innings, scoring 22 runs off 14 balls against Australia in the first T20i held at Vishakhapatnam.


On May 30, 2019, Singh faced a three-month suspension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This action came after he participated in the Ramadan T20 Tournament in Abu Dhabi without obtaining prior permission to play.
