Marriage and Children
Sridevi first tied the knot with actor Mithun Chakraborty in 1985, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1988. In 1996, she entered her second marriage with producer Boney Kapoor. From this union, Sridevi became a mother to two daughters, Jhanvi (born in 1997), who has also pursued a career in acting, and Khushi (born in 2000). Additionally, she became a stepmother to Boney Kapoor’s children from his previous marriage: a step-daughter named Anshula Kapoor and a step-son named Arjun Kapoor.
Career
Sridevi embarked on her career at a remarkably young age in 1967, portraying a child artiste in the Tamil film ‘Kandhan Karunai’. Following this, she took on the role of young Muruga in ‘Thunaivan’. Her entry into Telugu cinema as a child artist came with the 1970 film ‘Maa Nanna Nirdoshi’. Notably, films like ‘Kandan Karunai’ (1967), ‘Nam Naadu’ (1969), ‘Prarthanai’ (1970), ‘Babu’ (1971), ‘Badi Panthulu’ (1972), ‘Bala Bharatam’ (1972), ‘Vasantha Maaligai’ (1972), and ‘Bhakta Kumbara’ (1974) stand out as some of the most renowned works from her early career as a child actor.
She also appeared in ‘Julie’, where she portrayed the younger sister to the protagonist, Lakshmi. Additionally, she shared the screen with Jayalalitha in movies like ‘Thirumangalyam’, ‘Kandan Karunai’, and ‘Adi Parashakti’.
Death
Sridevi’s passing occurred on the 24th of February 2018, at 19:00 GMT, in her hotel room, where she was discovered by her husband. Initially, her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor informed the Indian media that the cause of her death was a cardiac arrest. However, an investigation into her demise commenced early Sunday morning around 2:30, and the case was subsequently handed over to the Dubai Public Prosecution by Dubai Police. The General Department of Forensic Evidence in Dubai later confirmed the cause of death as “accidental drowning”. Her funeral took place on the 28th of February at the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium in Mumbai.
