Chahal’s impactful performance in the second match, where he took three wickets for just 26 runs, played a crucial role in his team’s victory by 8 wickets. In that game, he showcased his skill with a seamless delivery at a speed of 109 km/h. His outstanding bowling earned him the distinction of being the first international Man of the Match, a feat he achieved in both ODIs and T20Is.

Chahal also established the best figures for an Indian spinner at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) against Australia. He represented India in chess at the World Youth Chess Championship, though he gave up the game later when he struggled to find a sponsor.

In April 2019, Chahal was named in India’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, concluding the tournament with 12 wickets. He further solidified his T20I prowess, becoming the third Indian bowler to reach 50 wickets in the format during the third T20I against Bangladesh in November 2019. On December 4, 2020, in the first T20I against Australia, Chahal replaced Ravindra Jadeja, who was suffering from concussion. In June 2022, he was selected in India’s squad for the T20I series against Ireland.
